Ketamine and Drug Testing - Ambulance Victoria

The purpose of this survey is to gather information on the use of Ketamine, drug testing in your role as a paramedic and occupational exposure to Ketamine and other drugs.

Ketamine is of concern to the AEAV as it is rapidly absorbed into hair with even the simplest touch or contact. This is done inadvertently and remains incorporated as part of the hair. When paramedics are subjected to hair testing, this incorporated Ketamine produces a positive result. These results are then reported back to Ambulance Victoria as a positive result to ketamine and disciplinary proceedings are commenced.

Ambulance Victoria does NOT recognise environmental or occupational exposure to Ketamine. Any positive result is considered indicative of personal use of the drug. Presently there is no recognised and agreed cut-off level for Ketamine.
